Great wine starts on the vine.
Covey Ridge Vineyard is a family owned and operated farm located on the northern western edge of the Willamette Valley, in Banks, Oregon. Our farm is proudly growing wine grapes in the newly established Tualatin Hills AVA. Our vines are situated on a fruitful hill overlooking the Tualatin Valley with a south-facing slope of 600 to 500 feet. The total property is just over 35-acres. Grape plantings started in 1995 and now total more than 15 acres that are meticulously dry farmed and proudly designated Salmon-Safe and LIVE certified sustainable. In 2022 we successfully farmed our first growing season using fully organic practices.
The grapes are predominantly Pinot noir (Dijon clones 114, 115, and 777) and Pinot gris (Dijon clone 152) along with an experimental block of Riesling and Chardonnay. A majority of the vines are grafted onto phylloxera resistant rootstock Couderc 3309 (3309C) and one block of Pinot Noir on Millardet et de Grasset 101-14 (101-14 Mgt). Our rows are planted unusually wide at 9' and 11' in selected blocks that we fondly refer to as "John Deere" spacing allowing for our tractor to fit comfortably between them. They are rooted in iron-rich Laurelwood soil under a layer of a windblown volcanic soil mixed with basalt (aka Loess) that was deposited by the Missoula Floods 12,000 years ago.
Our vines are supported by unusually high trellising that provokes increased airflow and sun exposure. We have adopted a unique horizontally divided trellis system called Lyre in select blocks. This growing method produces two fruit zones and increases light interception resulting in greater production while still maintaining superior quality.
We uphold an unwavering commitment to producing a variety of complex and high quality wines through environmentally and socially responsible grape growing, innovative winemaking, and distinguished business practices.
Over the past two decades, we have become a respected purveyor of thoughtful and sustainably grown grapes meticulously cultivated with careful consideration. Several well-known winemakers have produced extraordinary wines from our harvests. Most notably, Peter Rosback with Sineann Winery who bottled several highly regarded vintages that sold-out quickly and received extended praise from the industry. Additionally, the vineyard has partnered with Ferraro Cellars, Owen Roe, R. Stuart & Co., McKinlay Vineyards, Dobbes Family Estate, Walnut City Wineworks, as well as may others. In 2022 we were extremely honored to grow for Pike Road Wines, Elk Cove's sister winery. We also farmed fruit for Day Wines, James Beard 2020 "Award of Excellence" Semi-Finalist.
While 95% of our annual harvest is sold to other winemakers, most years a small block in the vineyard is reserved for our own grower’s label. Each wine produced under the Woven name is meticulously handcrafted and holds a unique story to tell. Our bottles are adorned with heritage photographs that honor the memories of family members as well as the legacies of loved ones. Our vision has always been to bring people together, cultivate stronger communities, provoke storytelling, and inspire joyful moments. As the past is woven with the present, the future unfolds.
Aside from occasional events, our facility operates as a family farm and is not open to the public.
